A retired iron worker and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. He was 65 and a native of Gilbert. He served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force for eight years.

Religious services at Community Memorial Funeral Home chapel, Winnsboro, at 10 a.m. Saturday, the Rev. Bobby Ensminger officiating. Interment in Oakley Cemetery.

Survived by two sons, Michael Barton and Leroy Barton Jr., both of New York; mother, Agnes Barton, Baton Rouge; a special friend, Elsie Merritt, Baton Rouge; a brother, Phillip Barton and wife Kay, Monroe; two sisters, Myra Calhoun, and Genell Polo and husband Al, all of Baton Rouge; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his father, Morgan Barton.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Dale Barton, Eddie Lachney, Larry Lachney, Wesley Ezell, Mack Calhoun and Mark Ezell.

Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Ray Emfinger and Sammy Holcomb.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
