He was born August 15, 1930 in Marignane, France, son of the late Pierre and Louise (Migliette) Baracco. He survived the Nazi occupation and during the Liberation in 1945 he met an American G.I. named Donald Geer. Don befriended Andre and offered him a place to stay if he wanted to come to the United States. In 1953, at the age of 23 he emigrated. He became part of the Geer family and Don treated him like a son. Andre met Betty Eckhart at a dance and in 1958 they wed. They built a house in Manchester and raised two sons, Jean and Adrien, there. They enjoyed traveling and made several trips to Europe including a trip to visit family in France in 2006. In 1997, they retired to Florida. After a stroke in 2002, that left him partially paralyzed, they returned to Connecticut. Andre and Betty celebrated their 50th anniversary in April 2008. He spent the last years enjoying his family and friends and living quietly at home.
He is predeceased by his wife Betty and his brother Jean Pierre. He is survived by his sister, Lily and her husband Georges Comperes of Goussainville, France; a sister-in-law, Anna Baracco of Marignane, France; two sons, Jean and his wife Diane of Windham and Adrien and his wife Susan of Kennebunkport, ME; three grandchildren, Remy of Port Royal, SC and Adam and Carly Baracco of Kennebunkport, ME and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury on Saturday, November 1 from 9-10 a.m.
Funeral Services and Graveside Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at Barkhamsted Center Cemetery, Beach Rock Road, Barkhamsted.
