William Wendell Wagstaff, 79, passed away peacefully in his home on October 28, 2008, after a valiant battle with two forms of Cancer. The world has lost one great man.

Wendell was born in Murray, Utah on August 15, 1929 to Wendell Denman Wagstaff and Vera Nona Ogden. He was truly a man without guile; he loved and was loved by everyone. He was trustworthy, honest and lived his values everyday.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many callings. Most notably, he was an awesome Scoutmaster, influencing young men to live the Scout Oath. He served two missions for the Church, one as a young man in Toronto, Canada, and another with his wife, Carolyn, in the Nauvoo Visitor's Center (1998-1999). In Nauvoo he shared his creativity and talents, leaving the blacksmith shop and brickyard a better place. He was actually seen on stage singing and dancing!

In 1953, Wendell married Frances Ruth Cayton in the Salt Lake Temple. They had three boys: Denman E. (Alyce) Wagstaff, Wendell S. (Gaylynne) Wagstaff and Lorin Rumel (Bernadette) Wagstaff. They made their home in Holladay, Utah for many years. In 1989, Frances was called home after a battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis and cancer. They had been married for 34 years. Dad lovingly took care of her. It was a marriage of happiness, filled with love and respect. A consummate hard worker, after serving in the Navy, he spent most of his working life in the restaurant business.

He purchased Morrison Meat Pie from his father-in-law, Mel Cayton in 1955. After years of success in Morrison Meat Pie, he and Fran moved to Antioch, CA, where he worked in the Kentucky Fried Chicken business for many years, serving in many positions of leadership with KFC. Even in "retirement" Wendell was an inspector in the family franchise. Twice a year he inspected 80 family owned restaurants.

He was a major force in the success of the family KFC business. His message was always clear: "Serve great food in a clean restaurant, treating your customers with integrity and kindness, and you will be successful." Wendell married Carolyn Lundgreen in 1990. They had a great companionship for nearly 20 years. Together they have enjoyed working, traveling, serving missions and being involved in their families lives.

He is survived by two great families: eight children; 32 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Also survived by his sisters, Janet (Bob) Runyan, Jessie Claire (Will) Ashby and brother, David (Sue) Wagstaff. Preceded in death by his brother, Stanford Zbinden. Dad will be missed very much by all who knew him, his character and example will live on. He will enjoy his reunion with his mom and dad, his wife, Fran, and other loved ones.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Union Fort 6th Ward Chapel, 6710 South 1300 East, Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Viewing will be held prior to the services from 10:30-12:30 at the Ward Chapel.
Interment: Holladay Memorial Park.
