Andrew Specht is the son of Chistopher Specht and Sarah. Andrew Married Margaret(Rebecca) Bisal .

Andrew Specht was a lifelong resident of the town of Shade, where he was the proprietor and succesful , manage of a good farm, and also the owner of a saw-mill in which he manufactured large quantities of lumber. He was a man of strict integrity and an active member of the Seventh day Baptist Church. To him and his wife whose madiden name was Rebecca Pisel Eight children were born to them.

On May 7, 1814, Andrew Specht, eldest son of Christopher Specht, purchased 392 1/2 acres of land from Jacob Cable for $314. The tract was warranted to Jacob Cable from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as recorded in Patent Book # 7, page 264. The tract was in the Edmond's Swamp Run area. Edmond's Swamp Run being a branch of Shade Creek. [3] Andrew Spect, on Sept. 1, 1832, purchased 292 1/2 acres of land from William H. Sloan, Administrator of the estate of Dr. Samuel L. Conover physician, for $218.00.[4]

The Spechts were millers for a period of four generations. Andrew Specht was the first in line to build and operate a gristmill in 1840. It was operated by water power on Dark Shade Creek in Shade Township, Somerset County. The mill was located one mile south of the junction of Dark Shade and Clear Shade Creeks in what is today the village of Reitz. [5]

He died on his seventy-fourth birthday on 30 August 1856 in Somerset county Pennsylvania. He was buried in the Gohn-Wilt (Valley Cemetery) in Shade Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania

Andrew and Rebecca children:

1-George Specht - born- on June 14, 1808 , he married Sarah Blough. George died on March 27,1889 and Sarah died on Jan. 1860 buried in the Wilt cemetery.

2- Susan Specht Born May 11, 1811 and died Nov. 15, 1885, she married Henry cable was born March 6, 1807 and died Oct. 29, 1868.. They had 13 children. At the time of Henry's Cable's death. His widow Susan and 6 children survived him and the are- Joseph, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Teresa, Susan, and David. Susan married for the 2nd time to David Rogers.

3- Sarah Specht was born about 1812 and was married to Jacob Gohn

4- Samuel Specht was born in 1814 married to Susanna Kimmel who died in 1883 2nd marriage to Eliza Moore and 3rd to Mary Bolyard. Samuel Specht died in 1902 . From the West Virginia marriage index 1785 - 1971 about Samuel Specht. Samuel Specht married Mary Bolyard - marriage date 1894 place - Preston West Virginia. Mary (Bloyard) Specht died Dec 31, 1913, in Elgon West Virginia.



5- Jacob Specht born about 1817 married lydia Snowberger, She died Oct. 22, 1885. Jacob died died Jan. 20, 1893. They are buried in the Salemsville Cemetery, Beford Co.Jacob Specht and Lydia Snowberger both (withdrew) from the Seventh Day Baptist Moastical Society of Snow Hill to marry.

6- David Specht was born Feb. 13, 1819 and died Feb. 24, 1896. He married Elizabeth Kimmel. David Specht is the son of Andrew and Rebecca Specht, was born Feb. 13, 1819 in Shade Pa where during the major part of his life he was engaged in farming on the old homestead. Coming to Somerset Co. in 1868, locating in the village of Spruce Town in Quemahoning and established a grist-mill and general store, he built up up a long and profitable business, and at his death Feb. 24, 1896, he left to his family a good propety. He was identified with the Rupublican party, and servered his fellow towns- men in various public capacities. He was also an active member of the Lutheran Church to which his widow belongs. Mrs Specht madien name was Elizabeth Kimmel. She was born in Quemahoning Township, April 24, 1824, daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Bender) Kimmel, and now is the only survivor of their eleven children. She is the mother of four children of whom these three are living. Hester, Franklin K. and Josiah. Hester is the wife of Person Lohr and has twelve children of whom six survie. Jane, David, Annie, Florence, James and Joseph. Franklin K. who served in the late war in company K of the Fifth pensylvania Heavery Artillery married Mary daughter of Noah Miller and has four children, Charles E, Annie, james and Jennie ( this is from Bigraphical review containing life sketches of the leading citzens of Bedford and Somerset Counties, Pennsylvania_)

7- Benjamin Specht- born Jan 25, 1812, near Soystown at the top of the Alleghenies. He was devout and had composed a hymn entitled ' Ich Bin Das Brod Des Lebens, Spricht Christian unser ( I Am The Bread of Life) Benjamin died May 26, 1843- Came to Snow Hill in 1835, elected Pastor Feb. 1840 as a young man. Composed Hymns. Inscription 31 years 4 months 11 days. Burial Snow Hill Cloister Cemetery.

8- Eve Specht, born June 16, 1821 married Jacob Brubaker and died on Nov. 5, 1885, Jacob died in 1890
