Charles was a weaver of coverlets. He arrived in the USA from France in 1843. He was the son of Peter and Elizabeth (Ruch) Adolph. (Born in Elmo, Alsace, France.) He married Emerence (Dubler or Deubler) July 2, 1847 in New Lisbon, IN, USA. They had 11 children: Catherine, George, Phoebe, Anna Mary, Elizabeth, Jacob Henry, Nancy, Amanda Ann, Susan, "infant", Rosie.
