She loved the color purple, Pepsi Cola, Tang, Pecan pie and Sunflower seeds.
Married my brother December 26, 1965.
I first met Tonie when I was about 12 years old, living in Arizona. We lived on the Jackson & Perkins Rose Company Ranch in Harquehala, Arizona. Tonie and my brother worked for Jackson & Perkins Rose Company. We became friends, she was very kind to me, her whole family were good people. She later told me "I took one look at your brother and it was love at first sight; I said to myself, I am going to marry that guy". She certainly did.
Tonie was a great sister-in-law, she helped me in many ways. She took me shopping, spent time with me and my sisters. When her husband (my brother) worked nights, I would spend Friday nights with her. We would stay up late at night watching movies, eating sunflowers seeds and drinking ice cold Tang. She loved snacking on sunflowers seeds, and her very favorite drink was ice cold Pepsi. She even drank Pepsi for breakfast. Tonie loved working in her garden and working in her yard. She loved music and loved dancing.
We also worked together at Jackson & Perkins. She made any job fun with her jokes and interesting stories. She had many friends, people just liked her. I believe she was so well liked and had many friends because her goodness just shined through her. Her beautiful smile, sparkling brown eyes, and her personality, spoke volumes of the kind of person she was.
Tonie suffered from a brain tumor, it was non-cancerous. She had surgery to removed it, the surgeons could not remove all of the tumor, it was deeply imbedded in her brain. She had to have radiation to shrink the remaining tumor. Afterwards, she had problems with her eye sight, she couldn't see very well, she also had balance problems. As the years went by, Tonie became bedridden. Everyone would tell my brother to put his wife in a convalescent hospital, he refused. My brother was his wife's caretaker through all the years she was ill. He hired someone to take care of her while he was at work, when he got home he would take over her care. My brother took great care of his wife, there were times it was very difficult for him. With the love my brother had for his wife and with Jesus' help, he managed to be there for his wife and provide for her care. My brother truely believed in "till death do us part". I am truely proud of my brother.

Maria was born September 20, 1945 in Taft, Texas to Manuel and Lydia (Hernandez) Garcia. She grew up in Bishop, Texas and in 1959 the family moved to Florida. In 1963 the family moved to Arizona. Maria was known to family and friends as "Tonie", and met the love of her live, Serafin Ybarra, Jr. in Harquehala, Arizona. Tonie and Serafin married on December 26, 1965 in Buckeye, Arizona and moved to Wasco with her husband and daughter in October 1967. Tonie was a loving wife and a wonderful mother to her two children. Tonie has six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Before her illness Tonie worked for Jackson and Perkins Rose Company for many years. Tonie loved working in her yard and tending to her flowers. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to family and friends. Tonie had an outgoing personality, and would even talk and help strangers; this is why Tonie had accumulated many friends. She loved music and dancing and Tonie and her husband could really dance up a storm, they were the best dancers on the dance floor.
Tonie loved the Lord and was a member of St. John's Church. After Tonie became too ill to walk alone, her son would walk her to church holding her hand. Tonie had been ill for thirty-one years and was blessed with a husband who cared for her all these years.
Tonie was preceded in death by her mother Lydia on June 30, 1998.
A special "thank you" to Optimal Hospice for their help, kindness and understanding during this difficult time; also to Father John for his prayers and to family and friends for stopping by to lend a helping hand, words of comfort and prayers.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Tuesday, February 12 at 6pm at Peters Funeral Home, Wasco. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, February 13 at 10am at St. John's Church. Fr. John will officiate and interment will follow at Wasco Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 12 from 2pm – 8pm at Peters Funeral Home.
