Kenneth Schaeffer Armacost, 84, died Saturday, October 25, 2008, at Carroll Hospice Dove House. He was the husband of Irma Keefer Armacost for the past five years and was predeceased by first wife, Ruby Myers Armacost, in 2002. Born July 1, 1924 in Carroll County, Md., he was the son of the late Edgar S. and Mary Schaeffer Armacost. He was a Tech Sergeant in the Army during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre with Company D, 594th Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment on the Islands of Cebu and Luzon. He received the Army Occupation Medal (Japan), Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and World War II Victory Ribbon. He worked as a builder with his father and brothers and later became a partner with his brother Bernard in the firm of Edgar S. Armacost Sons. He retired in 1990 after 50 years in residential and commercial construction. He was Secretary/Treasurer of St. Benjamin's Joint Cemetery for 30 years. He was an active member of Krider's United Church of Christ for 66 years and in 1992 became an active member of St. Matthew's United Church of Christ where served on the Church Council as Property Committee Chairman. He was a graduate of Westminster High School in the Class of 1942. He was a member of the Westminster Lions Club serving as President in 1982-83, the Westminster Jaycees, the Gettysburg Antique Automobile Club, the Pleasant Valley Community Volunteer Fire Department, Carroll Post 31 American Legion and the Molleville Farm Post 467 VFW. He enjoyed woodworking crafts, antiquing, dining out and country music. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are stepdaughter, Janet Keefer Hollis of North Liberty, Iowa; stepgranddaughter, Jennifer Hollis of Albuquerque, N.M.; nieces, Doris Hare, Mary Hayes and Nancy Edwards of Westminster, Md., and Ruth Schuler of Waynesboro; nephews, Bernard Armacost, Jr. of Glen Burnie, Md., and Michael Armacost of Westminster, Md.; and sister-in-law, Eleanor Myers Gorsuch of Lutherville, Md. He was predeceased by brothers, Harold Armacost and Bernard Armacost, Sr. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Matthews United Church of Christ in Pleasant Valley. Officiating will be the Rev. Nancy Clark, Interim Pastor of St. Matthews, and the Rev. Gerald Fuss, Pastor of Baust United Church of Christ. Interment will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
