Mary Margaret (Kailing) Haslem, formerly of Grand Rapids, Michigan, entered eternal life on Saturday July 23, 1988 at the Marshall Manor in Marshall, Michigan. She was 86 years old.
Mary was born on October 22, 1901 in Reed City, Michigan. She was the second of twelve children born to Philip and Anna Costello Kailing.
After graduating from high school, Mary entered the Mercy School of Nursing in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she became a registered nurse (RN) three years later. Mary was a nurse for many, many years in the neonatal department at Mercy Hospital. She took great pride in loving and caring for newborns. When I went to visit her at the hospital one time, she was rocking and comforting a crying baby. She had a special loving touch with those newborn babies in their first few days of life.
Mary married Frederick W. Haslem on May 30, 1927 in Grand Rapids. They had three sons, William (Bill), Fredrick Joseph (Freddy Jo), and James (Jim).
Mary was predeceased in life by her husband, Fred Haslem on July 10, 1964, a son, William (Dess) Haslem on May 30, 1968, and a granddaughter, Linda Marie Haslem on April 15, 1976.
She was survived by two sons, Frederick J. (Sandra) Haslem of Marshall, Michigan, and James M. (Phyllis) Haslem of Rolling Meadow, Illinois; eight grandchildren, five great-granchildren; a brother and four sisters (whom have since passed on to their Heavenly Home).
Visitation: Monday July 25, 1988 until 9pm at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home in Marshall, Michigan.
Funeral Services: Tuesday July 26, 1988 at 11am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshall.
Graveside Services and Burial: Tuesday July 26, 1988 at 3pm in the Chapel at Resurrection Cemetery in Grand Rapids.
