Funeral services were held in the Auburn ward chapel Monday.
Mrs Violet Hofhines, 59, former Star Valley resident of Idaho falls, became Wyoming's 135th highway fatality of the year last friday evening at about 6 p.m. in a traffic mishap three miles north of Etna on U.S.Highway 89.
Mrs Hofhines was a passenger in a 1951 Hudson coupe driven by her son Wayne Hofhines 31, of Idaho Falls. The nortbound Hofhines car collided with a car driven by Lynn R. Wight, 43, Salt Lake city when it skidded on straight and level icy pavement sideways across the highway into the path of Mr. Wright's 1953 Chrysler sedan, according to L.E. Curtis investigating officer.
At the time of the accident the roadway was very icy and visibility was almost zero due to heavy snowfall in the area at the time. Curtis said, Mrs Hofhines died instantly.
Both drivers were hospitalized in Afton but were not seriously injured. The cars were badly damaged.
Highway Patrol officers said the accident was caused by "speed too fast for existing conditions".
Funeral services were conducted at 12 noon Monday in the Auburn Ward LDS Chapel, under the direction of the Auburn bishopric. Schwab Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
