Little information to get the exact date of Calvin’s birthday; some descendants say that it was Oct. 26, 1864 from his obituary. I originally heard 1863, but from the family Bible of Ethel, Calvin’s second wife, has his birth at Oct. 20, 1872. His marriage license to Ethel shows them being mar. Dec. 30, 1902 at the age of 34. I have an old family Bible owned by Calvin’s son Sherman that has Calvin’s date of birth as Oct. 20, 1872, but if this were true, then the order of the children of William and Marie would be out of order.
Calvin was one of three of the McGahuey boys that traveled from IA along the Oregon Trail to settle in the OR and WA state area. Bud and Calvin finished the trip and their brother Eldorado was killed by Indians along the way. He was living in Mar. 1917, Oregon City, Clackamas Co., OR.
