All of his family were at his bedsides when he passed away except one son, Samuel, who was unable to come. Funeral services were held at Decatur Methodist church, conducted by Geo. R. Lamb of Leon, interment being made in the Decatur cemetery.

Edward was married on October 31, 1880 in Decatur Co., Iowa to Mary Elizabeth Smith (daughter of George W. Smith and Abigail Whitten). Mary was born on April 1, 1864 in Fulton Co., Illinois and died on September 9, 1934 in Decatur Co., Iowa and was buried in McGahuey Plot, Decatur Co., Iowa. Edward and Mary lived in Kellerton, Ringgold Co., Iowa in March 1917. Edward's parents moved to Decatur Co. Iowa when he was four. Three of Edwards sons married girls with the name of Goldie or Golda. In order to distinguish which aunt was being spoken to each was called Aunt Goldie Ol (Oliver); Aunt Goldie Bert; and Aunt Goldie Raymond. Two of Edward's and Mary's sons, George and Raymond decided to on a change in the last name, the families were settled in Decatur Co., Iowa. This change was a return to the first change, McGaughey and dropping the silent ‘g' therefore, McGauhey. Edward was a farmer.
