He was born April 3, 1887, in Cromwell Township, Huntingdon County, a son of Philip and Susan (Long) Whitsel. He was married to Mae Runk of Cromwell Township on December 23, 1914, with the Rev. George Swain of Shirleysburg officiating.
His wife survives along with the following children: Janvier Whitsel of Rockhill Furnace; Willard Whitsel at home; Mrs. Russell (Alice) Brumbaugh of Huntingdon; Fern Whitsel of Three Springs Star Route; Mrs. Lester (Isabelle) Eutzy of Shippensburg and Mrs. Kermit (Cleo) Wilson of Indiana, Pa. There are 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of a family of 14 children.
Mr. Whitsel attended the Church of the Brethren. During his life he was employed by the General Refractories at one of the company quarries and he also followed the occupation of farming.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 9, at 2 p.m. from the Ott funeral home in Orbisonia. The Rev. Albert Haught, pastor of the Sugar Run Church of the Brethren, will officiate. Interment will be made in the Monroe Chapel Cemetery at Three Springs, R.D. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 p.m. this evening until the hour for the service on Sunday.
