The funeral of the late William Brownell was held Thursday afternoon at the home of his son, Francis Brownell, in James street. The Rev. John Gray, D. D., offered, prayer and a eulogy delivered by the Rev. H. W. Gelston, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Leavitt sang three selections. Floral tributes were received from the Phelps and Bigelow Windmill Co., the W.C.T.U., and from the Woman’s Union of the Portage street Baptist church. J. M. Brownell, a son of the deceased, and Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Brownell of Plainwell, were present at the services. The bearers were Messrs. John DeVisser, J. Frank Russell, John TenHope, Elbert Nicholson, William Murray and W. H. Brownell. Burial took place In Mountain Home cemetery. Kalamazoo Evening Telegraph December 12, 1902 page 8
