W.C. Dowdy was born in the Franklin-Bloomdale Community about eight miles northwest of McKinney. His parents moved to McKinney in 1909 to educate their seven children. W.C. graduated from high school in McKinney, then attended the University of texas where he earned his LLB Degree in 1916. He was admitted to the state bar that year. He attended the historical Inns of Court in London, England in 1919. He practiced law in McKinney from 1916 to 1944.
On June 1944 he was appointed Judge of the District Court of the 59th district by Governor Coke Stevenson and was re-elected to this office until he retired on Dec. 31, 1964. He was a veteran of World War I, having served in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive and in the Army of Occupation after the war ended. He was a member of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church and had perfect attendance record at Sunday School for more than 50 years.
