Monroe Pioneer Called by Death Tuesday Evening

Alfonzo Winget, Black Hawk Indian war veteran and pioneer of Monroe, died at his home in Monroe Tuesday evening death resulting form general debility of old age.


Alfonzo Winget was born in Nauvoo, Illinois January 5, 1846, He, with his parents crossed the plains with a handcart company in 1847. He moved to Monroe as a young man in 1872 and made his home since that time. His wife Almeda Washburn Winget, died eight years ago. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Yergen Yergensen and Mrs. Fidelia DeMill, both of Monroe, and the following sons and daughters; Lucian Winget, present mayor of Monroe; Silas, Parley, Ted, Claud and G. C. Winget, Mrs. Sivila Magleby, Mrs. Maud Creamer and Mrs. Printha Fautin all of whom with the exception of Mrs. Fautin, live in Monroe. Mrs. Fautin's home is in Provo.


Mr. Winget was prominent in community and ecclesiastical activities in Monroe for many years. Funeral services will be held in the Monroe South ward chapel at 2 p. m. Saturday.
