Peter's location of birth has not been proven. Some researchers believe he was born in Holland, others suggest he was born in this country shortly after his father arrived in this country from Holland. Some suggest he was born in Berks Co. Since his location of birth isn't documented, it seems best to leave it blank. (Note that the DAR shows Peter as Peter Groff.)

Peter Grove participated in the Revolutionary War, serving in the PA Rifle Regiment commanded by Capt. Christ & Col. Miles. He also served with the Rangers on the frontier in Northumberland & Cumberland counties.

He married Sarah Whitmore, daughter of Revolutionary War patriot Peter Whitmore (Witmer) on 25 Dec 1781 in Shamokin Twp., Northumberland Co., PA.

They had a family of ten children: Elizabeth (Pearson, Welsh); Mary "Polly" (Myers); John; Jacob; Susan (Haslet); Peter; George; Sarah (Miller); William; & Fanny (Reed). Sarah died in 1844 near Wallaceville, Venango Co., PA.

Peter drowned in the Susquehanna River near Lock Haven (then Lycoming Co., now Clinton Co.) after participating in a shooting contest.
