She grew up and received her education at Ashland, Nebraska. Doris taught elementary school at Memphis, Nebraska.
On January 26, 1929, she was united in marriage to John B. Newberry at Logan, Iowa and lived in numerous locations before moving to Aurora in June 1951. Doris was a librarian for 17 ½ years for the Aurora Public Library. During her tenure, the Library received State Accreditation. John passed away on December 14, 1987.
Doris was a member of the First Christian Church and Federated Women's Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; three sisters, two brothers; two daughters, Patricia Christensen and Janet Bergman and three great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are her five grandchildren, Bruce (Ann) Bergman of Cozad, Robert (Connie) Bergman of Lincoln, Eric (Diane) Christensen of South Dakota, Brian (Erin) Christensen of Tennessee and Christine (Bob) Christensen of Oklahoma; 10 great-grandchildren and 8 great great-grandchildren.
