The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Taber Funeral Home in Oakland with the Rev. Martin Gutzmer officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery with military graveside rites. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today with Masonic services at 8 p.m.
He was born April 2, 1918, in Douglas County, the son of Purl Bennett and Okel Peters-Bennett. He married Betty Hanner May 13, 1946, in Oakland; she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Mike Bennett of Charleston and Chuck Bennett of Oakland; three sisters, Louise Ney of Morton Grove; Leoma Allison of Oakland and Ruth Barnett of Baytown, Texas.
He was also preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Mr. Bennett was a retired tank truck operator and livestock hauler and an Army veteran of WWII. He was a member of Oakland VFW Post No. 3637, Brocton American Legion Post No. 977, Oakland Masonic Lodge 219 and the Danville Consistory.
