MRS HITCHCOCK'S FUNERAL
The Services will be in Charge Of the Old Settlers.
The funeral Of Mrs. Lucy H. Hitchcock will take place from the Calvary Baptist church this afternoon [March 18, 1898] at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Hitchcock was one Of the pioneers Of Scott county and a most esteemable lady.
Lucy Hubbard Hitchcock was born in Windsor, Vt., Oct 8, 1828 and came to Davenport, then a frontier village Of mixed whites and Indians, in September 1836. She was married at the residence Of her sister, Mrs. Judge Grant, Sept. 30th, 1844 to Jared B. Hitchcock. The cottage in which the ceremony took place is still standing and is now occupied by Mr. Hugh Parr. But one Of the guests is now living, so far as known - namely Mrs. Susan Glaspell Of this city.

Mrs. Hitchcock was received into membership in Calvary Baptist church by the Rev. Charles Brown, its first pastor. She was an active member Of the Old Settlers association for over forty years. One sister still survives her, Mrs. Rev. G.W. Gardiner Of New London, N.H.

Five sons and daughters, A.C., W.H., and F.A. Hitchcock, Of this city; C.H. Hitchcock Of Rock Island; and G.G. Hitchcock Of Dubuque and Mrs. E.C. Clark Of Ogden, Iowa, and Mrs. Cinthia Snover Of Ovid, Mich. The funeral from Calvary Baptist church will be in charge Of Old Settlers. Interment at Oakdale.
