Rev. Hobert Monroe Addington, 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at the Heritage Hall Health Care in Wise.
He was a member of the Esserville Freewill Baptist Church, a pastor for several Freewill Baptist churches in the area, a member of the UMWA and was an employee of Old Ben Coal Co. for over 33 years.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Wade and Venia Addington; two brothers, Calvin Addington and Louis Addington; and a sister, Violet Fashbough.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Evelyn Gilliam Addington; three daughters, Wilma Graham, Marcelle Purkey and husband Harold, and Libby Taylor and husband Chuck, all of Wise; a son, Dennis Addington and wife Peggy of Wise; five grandsons, Rodney Graham, Frank Purkey, Douglas Purkey, Jason Taylor and Neal Addington; three granddaughters, Janet Price, Karen Tweedy and Laura Taylor; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Letha Owens of Dunedin, Fla.; three brothers, Billy Joe Addington of Wise, J.C. "Bean" Addington of Wise and Jimmy Addington of Anderson, Ind.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Rev. Hobart Addington will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, with Pastor Jim Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. till time of services at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise. Burial and graveside committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, in the Wise Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home to go to the cemetery in procession.
