Mildred Gutke Smith, 90, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2008 at her home surrounded by her family.

Mildred was born in Shelley, Idaho on January 22, 1918 to William M. and Edith W. Gutke. She graduated from Shelley High School and attended LDS Business College. Following her graduation from LDS Business College, Mildred worked for three years as a secretary for the Coca-Cola Soft-Drink and Bottling Company. Mildred married Edward Lorenzo Smith on January 25, 1941 at the Lion House in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. For over 40 years, Mildred worked part time for her husband who owned and operated Lorenzo Smith and Son, a fire apparatus company that represented American La France Fire Engine Company and the Flxible Bus Company. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions in the Sunday School, Mutual and Relief Society. Mildred also belonged to wonderful dinner, bridge and a sewing club that met for over 50 years. She had many friends and loved spending time with them. The love of Mildred's life were her husband and her four children.
