Mary Munn Thompson, 89, of Fontana, Wis., and a long-time summer resident of Hayward, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, in Fontana. She was born Feb. 28, 1917, in Rock Island, Ill., to Daniel Gordon and Emma Blanche (Munn) Hayes. She was married to Richard Earl Thompson on June 25, 1938, in Maywood, Ill. Mr. Thompson was well known as an impressionist oil painter.

Mary Munn was actively involved in starting the Mother's Club for her children's grade school. She helped start a Brownie and Cub Scout troop in this area as well as worked with the Girl Scouts. She was in charge of the Christmas crafts for the Fontana Community Country Fair, and because of her love for birds and animals, she actively supported the Humane Society. In her free time she enjoyed being a seamstress and a quilter. In earlier days she was proud to have won the Jitterbug Contest at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, Ill.

Mary Munn is survived by her sons, Thomas Daniel Thompson of Mequon, Wis., and Robert Bruce Thompson and wife, Joan, of Fontana, Wis.; two grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Hazel Thompson and her son, Greg, of San Rafael, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Richard Earl Thompson Jr.; and two sisters. Pat Hall and Jean Hendricks.

Memorial services were conducted Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Fontana Community Church in Fontana, Wis.
