Mary Nelle Winfrey, 96, of Gleason, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at her residence. Services were held at 1 pm Monday at Dresden First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Don Leslie and the Rev. Jim Calhoun officiating. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Gallimore Funeral Home of Gleason was in charge of arrangements. Tommy Thomas, Sam Bradberry, Tommy Bradberry, Bill Stallings, Richard Dean Williams, and George Thomas III served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Ziegler, Charles Culver, Joe Bunk Freeman, Junior Moore, Mackie Williams, Dwayne Maddox, Walter Bennett, and Bill Featherstone.

Mrs. Winfrey was born July 15, 1912, in Dresden, daughter of the late William Walter and Mary Frances Elliott House. She was the widow of William "Bill" Albert Winfrey, retired secretary at Dresden High School and member of Dresden First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one nephew, Dee (Karen) House of Gleason; and two nieces, Sally (Phil) Branon and Anne (Wallace) Todd, both of McKenzie. wcp 9-16-08
