Mrs. Rachel Keplinger, the daughter of Dr. Wm. and Maria Holliday was born September 23rd, 1848, near Appalonia and departed this life at her home in Waverly shortly before 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, December 11th, aged 83 years, 22 months and 18 days. She was the youngest of three children, one brother, Waller Holliday and a sister, Mrs. Clementine Meacham having preceded her in death. When a girl she united with the Methodist church where she has remained a member until her death.
On January 15th, 1868 she was united in marriage to Benjamin Franklin Keplinger who passed away July 21st, 1920. They were the parents of three children, one daughter, Mrs. Hattie M. Stice having died December 14th, 1924. The remaining children are John Benjamin Keplinger and Mrs. Ella Loretta Short, both of near Waverly. There are also seven grandchildren, Earl and Maurice Stice, Mrs. Otis Sims, Mrs. George Wilton, Mrs. Carl Redfern and Edith and Rachel Short, as well as ten great-grandchildren who survive her.
Mrs. Keplinger lived her entire life in this community, with the exception of one year spent in Christian County, and for the past 26 years lived at her late home in Waverly.
Funeral services were held at the First M. E. church Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock in charge of Rev. G. M. Wilson, pastor of the M. E. circuit, assisted by Rev. H. C. Munch, pastor of the church.
Burial was in Waverly cemetery.
