He successfully enlisted in the Army under his alias. He married on 30 June 1923 in Jefferson County, Ind., Gladys Graves (4 April 1901-1971), who was born in Jefferson County. Tbe marriage was short-lived and his daughter, Margaret Ann Burns, wife of Garnet Lowe, spent years looking for him. Somehow, the family was notified he died on a street in California.
