Jesse S. Addison

Aug. 30, 1919 – Oct. 24, 2001

Jesse S. Addison, 82, of Carthage, died Wednesday, October 24 at his residence. He was born on August 30, 1919 in Rush County, a son of the late Don and Marguerite (Stuart) Addison.

Mr. Addison had been employed as a truck driver by Dickbrader Express and had also been employed by 4-Star Charter as a bus driver. He was a member of the Carthage Friends Meeting and was a former member of the Carthage Volunteer Fire Department. On July 14, 1972 he married Elizabeth M. Hitchens who survives.

Survivors besides his wife are two sons, Boyd (wife Dawn) Duncan of Carthage, and Edmund (wife Diane) Smock of Ft. Wayne; seven daughters, Kay (husband Walt) of Arlington, Peggy (husband Harold) Edwards, Carthage, Kay (husband Bill Downs, Anderson, Sondra (husband Ray) Fox, Pendleton, Flora Smock, Richmond, Doris (husband Larry) Whitehurst, Anderson, and Anita (husband Dale) Bell of Elwood; two brothers, Howard (wife Joan) Addison, New Castle, and Lynn (wife Betty) Addison of Arlington; one sister, Isabell (husband Marshall) Gardner of Versailles; 31 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Addison was preceded in death by his first wife Dotty (Sullivan) Addison, a son, Edward Smock, a daughter, Wanda McCleese, and a sister, Lloyd Addison.

Services were held Saturday, October 27 at the Carthage Friends Meeting with Rev. Howard Addison officiating with burial in the Carthage Friends Cemetery. Visitation was on Friday, October 26 at the Todd Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the Carthage Volunteer Fire Dept. with envelopes available at the funeral home.
