Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Bear Creek Cemetery in rural Vernon, with Larry Quick officiating. Friends and family gathered at the cemetery. Day Funeral Homes Ltd. of Sandoval and Patoka was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Patoka Fire Department and EMTs.
Mr. Balance was born on Dec. 30, 1911, in Patoka, the son of Clarence Leroy and Prudy Page Logan Balance. He married Pauline Robertson on Jan. 16, 1935, in Shelbyville; she died on April 21, 1993.
He lived his life in Patoka. He worked as a farmer and for Schrader Dairy, and he then worked in the oil fields for SoOhio Oil Co. and Karchmer Oil Co. for more than 40 years. He enjoyed gardening, but his main enjoyment was spending time with his family.
He is survived by a son, Richard Balance and his wife Cheryl of Huntington, Ind.; daughters, Darlene Quick of Centralia, and Judy and her husband Wes England of Rockford; brother, Luther Balance of Lewiston, Mont.; grandchildren, Larry Quick and his wife Carol of Boulder, Darrel "Chuck" Quick Jr. of Boulder, Christine Quick of Carlyle, Uretta and her husband Bob Koontz of Centralial and Lori and her husband Brad Erlinger of Waterloo; stepgranddaughter, Melissa Hines of Huntington, Ind.; great-grandchildren, Kevin Quick of Houston, Texas, Jeff Quick and his wife Karen of Decatur, Timothy Quick of Indianapolis, Ind., Ricky Hamilton of Carlyle, Carri Anne and her husband Chris Hanson of Carlyle, Cole Erlinger of Carlyle, Lindsie Rollinson of Lebanon, Kayla and Brooke Rollinson of Centralia, Seth Quick of Salem, Clint Erlinger of Waterloo, Ashley Koontz of Atlanta, Ga., and Jessica Hines of Huntington, Ind.; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Clarence Jr., Erastus, Dwight and Leo; and sister, Genevieve.
