WASHINGTON - Britt Dee Kendall, 82, of Washington, Utah, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, September 27, 2008.

He was born August 21, 1926, to James Arthello and Athalia Haws Kendall in Moroni, Utah. He grew up on a farm in Nephi, Utah at the mouth of Nephi Canyon where his father worked as the power plant superintendent. Britt's father passed away from complications due to an accident at the power plant when Britt was 17 years old and shortly thereafter he joined the U.S. Navy and served in World War II from 1944-46. Britt served in the submarine division for much of his Navy career.

He worked in Sun Valley, Idaho where he had the opportunity to meet many movie stars. He attended Utah State University from 1948-51. He worked in the insurance business for several years and in car sales and always had a nice car to drive.

Britt was hired by the Utah Highway Patrol in 1955 and served as the Sergeant over Southern Utah for many years. In the spring of 1956, shortly after moving to Southern Utah, he met the love of his life, Yvonne Turner of Washington, Utah. They were engaged 16 days later and married September 8, 1956 by brother-in-law and Bishop Quentin Nisson. They were later sealed for eternity in the St. George L.D.S. Temple.

Britt had a love of building especially in carpentry and was a skilled craftsman. He built much of his current home of 46 years. He also remodeled many homes in the area and enjoyed helping others with projects.

Britt served in many church and civic capacities including: The first fire chief of Washington City where he arranged for the first fire truck and fire station that was placed on his property for many years; the Washington Lion's Club where he was a charter and founding member and served as president twice and arranged for their first meeting location also on his property in the old Relief Society Building; Washington City Building Inspector; Washington City Planning Commission; Washington City Council; Washington City Historical Society Board Member and Pioneer Museum Volunteer; Washington City Chamber of Commerce and The Dixie Center Board.

He also recruited the first doctor and dentist to Washington City. He served in many various church callings including Temple worker and most recently as the Stake Baptism Coordinator.

Britt is preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Haws, Clair and Bill, sisters: Lorna, Della, and Clarice, and daughter: Karolee (1965-1965).

Britt is survived by his wife, Pearl Yvonne Turner Kendall of Washington; sisters, Jean Hinton and Afton Cheney, and six children: Kathie Hermansen (husband Alan) of Riverton, Utah, Konnie Peterson (husband Rick) of Midvale, Utah, Kristie Criddle (husband Rich) of Washington, Utah, Kelly Britt Kendall (wife Darlene) of St George, Utah, Kerry James Kendall (wife Amy), and Kurtis Dee Kendall (wife Sheila) of Washington, Utah. He is also survived by 28 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, multiple foster grandchildren and he's thought of and called Grandpa by many others.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 2, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Washington L.D.S. Main Street Chapel, 50 North Main Street, Washington, Utah.

Interment will be in the Washington City Cemetery with military and Highway Patrol honors. Arrangements under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary
