Walter James Erskine, 90 year old retired Route 2 farmer, died at 10 p.m. Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ernest Ratcliff at Londonderry. He had been seriously ill five months.
A native Ross Countian, he was born Jan. 5, 1869 to Samuel B. and Sarah Bunn Erskine and married Alice Jones on Dec. 24, 1901. The wife died in November 1952.
While Mr. Erskine devoted most of his life to farming, he spent five years with the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad as a brakeman. He is a former member of the board of education for the Liberty Fractional School District.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. (Mabel) Ratcliff and Mrs. Cecil (Helen) Roush, Route 2, one son, Samuel B., Athens; a sister, Mrs. Hattie M. Barrett of Galion, and a grandson, John G. Tracy.
He was preceded in death by a son, six sisters and three brothers.
Service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ware Funeral Home with the Rev. R. C. Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Concord Church Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Wednesday.
