Son of Oliver and Maria (Holmes) Hulburd. He married Anna Mary Talcott Jan 23, 1869 in Webster Co., Iowa.
They had five children: Vernon L., Lizzie H., Arthur S., Bertha Rebecca, and Christina A. Hulburd.
After Anna's death, Horace married a 2nd time to Mary Wakeman.

"HORACE HULBURD DIES AT OTHO"
"Special to the Messenger"
"Otho, March 1.--Horace C. Hulburd, 87, died at his home here at 4:30 p. m. Monday. He had been a resident of this community for sixty-six years.
Funeral services will be held at the Otho Congregational church Thursday at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Wayne Burch, officiating. The body will be at Wilder-Young funeral parlors in Fort Dodge until Thursday morning.
Mr. Hulburd is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Killam, Christina Hulburd; two sons, Vernon L. and Arthur S. and two grandchildren, all of Otho."
