Francis was born May 18, 1927 in St. Cloud to Joseph & Regina (Raden) Heinen. He married Dorine Sumbs on June 16, 1945 at St. Mary's Cathedral in St. Cloud. He enjoyed boxing and wrestling when he was younger. Francis worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 30 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, lifetime member of Sauk Rapids American Legion Post 254 where he was Commander for two terms, lifetime member of Sauk Rapids Sportsman Club, Auxiliary Fire Dept. Chief, and past president of his bowling league. He was most proud of his wife of 62 years and his grandchildren. Francis was best known for being everyone's friend. He enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, and playing with the great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Dorine of Sauk Rapids; sons, Francis Jr. and special friend, Lori Steele of Sauk Rapids, John (Diana) of St. Cloud, Matthew (Carol) of Sauk Rapids, Glen, and Fred of Missouri; special granddaughter, Michele Capes; sister and brother, Genevieve (Hank) Hart of Pennsylvania and Elmer Heinen of St. Cloud; fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Gertrude Welters and Ella Werner; and brother, Edward Heinen.
