GLADYS ADA GARWOOD BURKENBINE February 3, 1920 - April 2, 2004 Died at the age of 84 after her struggle with a stroke in December of 2003 and pneumonia. Loving wife of 58 years to Merlin Nelson. Devoted and much beloved mother to her daughters, Bonita Chapman and Joiane Mickaels. Also survived by her loving sister Lou Goveia and her brothers, Melvin Durham and Jake Durham. Granddaughters Heidi and Heather Chapman will also miss their much loved "Grandma Burky." Gladys will be lovingly remembered and missed by son-in-law James Chapman and family friend David Carter. Best friends Amanda Perez and Helen Correia will miss her laughter and friendship. We love you, Mom. Rest peacefully now. Visitation for the public will be held at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA, on Wednesday, April 7, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Interment will be private.
