Ellis Clarence Brown, according to his birth certificate, was born on April 13, 1905 and was married to Zelphia Boothe Brown on July 15, 1933 in Scott County, Virginia. (Note: his stone reads 1909.) Record indicate he was born in Grayson Co. and she was born in Russell County, Va. He was 28 and Zelphia was 23. Both listed Kingsport, Tenn. as their residence at the time of their marriage. He was employed by "Public works." There was one child born of this union, a daughter, Eva Sue Brown. Eva Sue Brown married Robert Gibbs Dillard. Clarence had a step son, Bascom Slemp Boothe, who was the son of his wife, Zelphia. The name of Bascome's biological father is not known to this writer.

When he was married, Clarence listed his Dad as M. J. Brown (Mark Johnson Brown) and his mother as Hannah Noblitt. Mark Johnson Brown is the son of Creed M. Brown and Matilda Jones. Hannah Noblitt is the daughter of John B. Noblitt and Zilpha Lundy.

Clarence and Zelphia moved from Virginia to Illinois at an early age to find employment. Sadly, Aunt Jim passed away at 55 years of age from a brain aneurysm, she was living in Illinois. Upon retirement, Clarence moved back to Tennessee to be near family and friends.

Mark Johnson Brown (b.1869) and Hannah Anne Noblitt (b.1878) had the following children: Leona (b.1899), Madline (b.1901), William R. (b.1902), Ellis Clarence (b.1907), Muncy H.(b.1908), Paul (b.1908), Lula Belle (b.1912) and Albert Ernest (b.1914).

Ellis Clarence married my aunt, Zelphia Boothe and Lula Belle married my uncle, Gernie Alvin Boothe. Zelphia and Gernie were the children of William Lee Sister Price Boothe and Ocie Mae Salyer Boothe.
