Catherine was the daughter of William Pixley and Margaret Owens. Circa 1836 she married Fielding Wilson, and had a daughter, Laura Wilson, {who died at the age of 16, while on a visit to Bardstown, Kentucky}. Fielding Wilson died about 1840. On 25 January 1842 Catherine became the 2nd wife of Greenup Bird.

The Widow of the Late Greenup Bird of Liberty Dies Suddenly. Mrs. Catherine J. Bird, widow of Greenup Bird, Sr., died suddenly yesterday noon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H.C. Orr. Mrs. Bird would have been 80 years old next February. Mrs. Bird was born in Kentucky and came to Clay county, this state, in 1839. She lived for many years in Liberty, Mo., where her husband was a banker. Since his death she had lived in this city at the home of her daughters, Mrs. Orr and Mrs. Witten McDonald. Mrs. Bird left four sons and four daughters. They are George F. Bird, Greenup Bird, Jr., John P. Bird, James E. Bird, Mrs. A.M. Dockery, Mrs. Witten McDonald, Mrs. James E. Lincoln and Mrs. Orr. The funeral will be held tomorrow at Liberty. A special train will leave the Union depot in this city tomorrow morning at 10 oclock with the funeral party and will return to the Union depot at 2 oclock in the afternoon. The funeral services will be in the Presbyterian church in Liberty. The Rev. Dr. Neel, pastor of the Central Presbyterian church of this city, of which Mrs. Bird was a member, will preach, and be assisted by the Rev. Bishop, pastor of the Liberty church. The pallbearers, all pioneers of Western Missouri and friends of the Bird family, will be: Thomas K. Hanna, Darlus Gettings, Webster Withers, Andrew J. McDoanld, Dr. Thomas Marsh, John W. Byers, A.G. Tulrnbull, Louis Dougherty, Prof. James Love and Colonel George P. Gross.
