When Major Francis Jones (second husband of Rachel Inman Spain) died Dec. 24, 1849, he willed his wealth to his wife and step son John Wm. Spain. Rachel Inman Jones lived until 1862 and was buried beside Major Jones at Forest Hill. Her grand daughter Sarah, at the age of 19, married Mitchell Jones, 24, and, as a wedding gift, was presented with the mansion and 1,960 acres. After Mitchell Jones returned from the War Between the States, he built a new home. "Wildwood," in present day Valdosta, Lowndes Co., GA. In 1900, at the death of Mitchell Jones, the property was willed to his surviving daughters, Ada Jones Paine and Elizabeth "Bessie" Jones Smith.
Their children were: Florence V., Elizabeth "Bessie", Ada Inman, and Mary T.
