Margaret C. Arnone McGann, 81, of Little Silver, passed away Monday, Sept. 22, at her daughter's house in Red Bank, surrounded by her loving children. Prior to moving to Little Silver in 2000, she resided in Red Bank for 42 years. She was born the sixth of nine children to Albert and Elizabeth Hoffman of Savage, Mont. She was raised in Savage and was a 1947 graduate of Columbus School of Nursing in Great Falls, Mont. She spent seven years in the U.S. Air Force and was an Air Force nurse stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska, when she met Judge Advocate General John P. Arnone. They married in 1958 at McGuire Air Force Base in Pemberton and returned to John's hometown of Red Bank, where he had set up his law practice. She was active in St. James P.T.A. and was a 50-year member in St. James Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She loved to attend daily Mass, go to the beach, read, play bridge, travel, attend family reunions, and keep in touch with all her relatives. She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank.
She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, former Red Bank Mayor and Judge John P. Arnone, in 1998; three brothers, Leo Hoffman of Savage, Mont., Teddy Hoffman of Roundup, Mont., and Henry Hoffman of Hardin, Mont.; and two sisters, Josephine Hoffman of Savage, Mont., and Marie Gerszewski of Virginia Beach, Va. Surviving are her second husband, Judge Patrick J. McGann Jr.; six children, Annette Pawlas and her husband Gary of Louisville, Colo., Beth Arnone and her husband Michael Johnston of Libertytown, Md., Mary Preziotti and her husband Enrico of Assisi, Italy, Debi Tamburri and her husband Anthony of Red Bank, Joe Arnone and his wife Linda of Knoxville, Tenn., and John Jr. of Red Bank; three brothers, Raymond Hoffman of Trenton, N.D., Michael Hoffman of Billings, Mont., and Vincent Hoffman of Albuquerque, N.M.; 12 grandchildren, Lindsay, Mariah, Matthew, Kate, Julian, Christopher, Francesca, AJ, Joseph, Blaise, Nicole and Lauren; and 24 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetary, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society, c/o St. James Church, 94 Broad St., Red Bank, NJ 07701.
