A memorial service for David Henry Billingsley, 79, of Pontiac, was held Oct. 28, 2005, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville. Mr. Billingsly died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, at his home. He was born Aug. 23, 1926, in the Hammond area, the son of Josh and Lizzie (Wallace) Billingsly. He married Velma Ingram Mahan March 29, 1979. He attended Gainesville High School and later worked in Kansas and Illinois. He returned to Missouri in 1958 and was a guide for 19 years on Bull Shoals Lake and Norfork Lake. He worked much of that time out of the Theodosia Marina. In 1979, he and his wife, Velma, moved to Mountain Home, AR, where he worked at Wal-Mart and Baxter Lab. He moved back to the farm in the Pontiac area in 1984 where he and his wife raised cattle. He loved to fish and hunt and was a trapper. Mr. Billingsly is survived by his wife, Velma; one daughter, Twila Muhammed of Iowa City, IA; one son, Eddie Ray Billingsly of Moline, IL; several grandchildren; two sisters, Judy Humiston of Isabella and Rutha Pursselley and her husband, John, of Pleasant Hope; one brother, Gene Billingsly of Gainesville; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Burton; and four brothers, Almos Wallace, Luther Billingsly, James Billingsly and Joe Billingsly. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association. Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, directors.
