RICHARD MORGAN SWIFTJohn F. (Fremont) Swift had five brothers and four sisters, Harry and Richard served in the Civil War. Richard enlisted in the Sixty-eight Indiana Volunteers. He died while returning to his home from the front. Harry, the other brother, served in the Eighteenth Indiana Volunteers. He was captured by the Confederates and taken prisoner. While being removed to prison, he jumped off the train and was shot, but succeeded in escaping. He helped hew the logs and build the old McKendrie church, of which he was Sunday school superintendent for over forty years.
