George Mathew Allmond, 70, of Route 3, Soperton, died Wednesday of last week in the Memorial Hospital, Savannah, following a brief illness. A native of Montgomery County, he was a warehouseman for the Piggly Wiggly Southern Company, and a member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Emerson and Mollie Hamilton Allmond.


Funeral services were held at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with the Rev. John Quattlebaum officiating. Interment was in the Williamson Cemetery with Murchison Funeral Home in charge.


Pallbearers were; grandson, Ronnie Williamson, Roy Williamson, Donald Williamson, Myron Braddy, Daniel Braddy. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of the church.


Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Otha Warnock Allmond, Soperton, two daughters, Mrs. Ben Williamson, Vidalia, and Mrs. Wendell Braddy, Douglas; one step daughter, Mrs. Cleve Brown, Ellaville,Ga., two sisters, Mrs. H.W. Gray and Mrs. J.B. Bailey, both of Vidalia; four brothers, C.R. Allmond of Vidalia, E.R. Allmond, Sr., of Kibbee and Carlton Allmond of Swainsboro, T.R. Allmond of Higgston, seven grandchildren and five step grandchildren.
