Funeral services for Allen ''Scooter'' Barnett, 73, of Deadwood Community, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, in Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Frank Vaughn and Rev. Keith Cowel officiating. Burial followed in Old Prospect Cemetery.

Mr. Barnett died Feb. 26 in LSU Medical Center following injuries received in a trash fire accident at his home. Mr. Barnett was born September 29, 1910, the son of Henry Phillip [sic Pinkston] Barnett and Alta Leona Barnett. He was married to the former Sybil Spradley and was a lifelong resident of Panola County.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sybil Barnett, of Deadwood Community; sons, William H., of Deadwood Community and Weldon, of Panola; one step-son, Wayne Bagley, of Carthage; one brother, C.W. ''Buck'' of Deadwood Community; sisters, Mrs. Mattye Bailey and Mrs. Lacy Fannin, both of Waskom; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
