H.A. Archer Dead at 85
LOWVILLE - Hugh A. Archer, 85, New Port Richey Fla., a Lewis County native, died Wednesday at his home in Florida.
The funeral will be Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Virkler Funeral Home, Rev. Charles Adams, pastor of St. Peter and Paul's Church, New Boston, officiating. Burial will be in West Lowville Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
He is survived by three sons, Donald, Yardley Pa., Guy, Hornell, Eugene, LaFargeville; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Arletha) Zehr. New Bremen, and 12 grandchildren.
Born in the town of Martinsburg, April 20, 1889, a son of Alvin and Rozina Bellinger Archer he was a cheesemaker in the Barnes Corners area 30 years and later he operated a hotel at Copenhagen. He also had worked for the New York Central Railroad for about 15 years, retiring in 1955. He had resided in Lowville until moving to Florida in 1965.
In 1916 he married Ida Delia (Minnie) Chartrand in St. Peter's rectory, Lowville. She died Nov. 9, 1960.
