From the Tiskilwa IL Chief 23 Nov 1892:
"The success of some men is simply phenomenal, says the Jefferson, Iowa Bee: A case in point is D. S. Miller of Bureau county, Illinois, a gentleman well known in this section by reason of his great land deals, which have made him a frequent visitor in this city. Besides his large real estate ownership, he is the father of ten children, all living. With generous purpose he made up his mind recently to divide his large patrimony in order that his family might get some benefit from the same during his lifetime. Accordingly he came to Jefferson last week and had papers made out deeding to his children land to the value of $24,000 - $240,000 in all. It is Iowa soil, lying in the counties of Greene, Guthrie, Dallas and Adair. After the papers had been properly made out and signed he remarked that he had considerable territory left, amply sufficient to take care of himself and wife. The gift is a magnificent one, but after all the fact of ten living children with the father and mother still at the head of the family is more remarkable. Such a family chain with no broken links is indeed a marvel when one remembers the uncertainties of human life. Long live D. S. Miller and family."
