The second child and only daughter of Beulah Belle (Hancock) Brackeen and William David Brackeen, Myrtle lost both her parents at a very young age; her father was ambushed and murdered, while checking on some family owned land, when she was two years old. Her mother remarried and had two more children, another daughter, Hazel, and another son, Henry,Jr., by Henry Gibson Casey. Her mother died when she was about eight years old and her step-father remarried. His new wife did not want to raise his step-children, so Myrtle and her older brother, Thelbert, were separated and were sent to live with different relatives. After several years, they lost contact with each other. It was such a tragedy that he died three years before she did, never finding each other again.
She was sent to live with an aunt, who ran a foster home, until she was whisked away one night to elope in marriage to Johnie Floyd White.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her brother, James Thelbert Lee Brackeen, half-brother, Henry G. Casey, Jr., and a grandson, Donald Ray Holder.
She and Floyd had five children, who survive her; a son, Johnnie White and wife, Marcella, and four daughters, Faye Drake and husband Stew, Mae Holder and husband, Dennis, Dale DeShong and husband, Tom, and Lena Merk and husband, John; also a half-sister, Hazel Howard and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren,to keep her busy and happy. She was a sweet and simple person that loved her family, reading her Bible, going to church and crocheting.
