Born Elizabeth Ida Tschopp, she was a daughter of Absalom Chubb (Tschopp) (1844-1915) and Elizabeth Witmer (1849-1922).

Siblings: Emma Jane, Mary Diana, Edwin, Catherine Agnes, Isaac E., William Franklin, Laura R., Hattie Bertha, Robert Philip, and Gurney Roscoe Tschopp.

She was the second wife of Phillip Klinger (1868-1950). Phillip and his first wife, Mary Diana Tschopp, Elizabeth's sister, separated between 1900 and 1903, but they did not divorce. He lived with Elizabeth and they had children starting in 1903, eventually marrying in 1919 after the death of his first wife in 1916.

Children: Hattie Catherine, Mitchell Roosevelt, Phillip William Absalom, Stanley Louis, Elizabeth Sarah, James Robert, Henry Wadsworth, Myrtle Marie, Martha Priscilla, Margaret Savilla, George Eugene, Mildred Jane, and Evelyn Kathleen Klinger.
