Edgar Almand was the oldest son of Alexander James Almand and his wife Clara Emily Bond. He probably was named for his mother's oldest brother, Edgar Bond, who tragically died in an accident the year before Edgar Almand was born. Unfortunately, when Edgar Almand himself was nine years old, he was kicked in the head by a horse, crushing part of his skull. Despite the efforts of two local doctors, his grandfather Dr. William P. Bond and a Dr. Farmer, and Dr. Willis Westmoreland, a surgeon from Atlanta, Edgar could not recover. He died hours later.
