Joyce was born in Huntington Park, California on July 27, 1931 to Harold Eugene Slack and Kathryn Margaret Von Eich. She was raised and educated in California where she also met her husband, DeLyle Beckstrand, who was serving in the U.S. Navy. They were married in the St. George, Utah L.D.S. Temple on December 4, 1951. Joyce was active in the L.D.S. church and served in many teaching and leadership positions. Joyce and DeLyle served 18 months in the Alaska Anchorage Mission, four years in the Cove Fort Visitors' Center, and 18 months in the Florida Jacksonville Mission. Joyce was a very kind and compassionate woman with a great deal of love for others. She spent countless hours working with the L.D.S. Genealogy Name Extraction Program. She blessed the lives of many others who had the opportunity to listen to her beautiful singing voice. She was well-known for her beautiful quilts and handwork. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Joyce is survived by her husband, DeLyle, of Meadow, Utah; a daughter, Cynthia Joyce (Steve) Iverson, of Fillmore, Utah; sons Michael D (Jenneice) of Providence, Utah; James Earl (Tammy) of Meadow, Utah; and David Harold (Juliette) of Draper, Utah; a sister, Linda Fely of Huntington Beach, California; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, John Eric Beckstrand.
A viewing for friends and family will be held on Friday, September 12, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday, September 13, 2008 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the Meadow L.D.S. Ward Chapel. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2008 beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Meadow L.D.S. Ward Chapel.
Interment immediately following the services in the Meadow, Utah Cemetery under the care of Rasmussen Mortuary.
