DeLyle Beckstrand, our wonderful father, grandfather, and great grandfather, completed his mortal mission and returned to his Heavenly Father on May 19, 2016 after a long and courageous life of 87 years.

DeLyle was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on September 18, 1928 to Orvil Edwin and Grace Stewart Beckstrand. He married his eternal sweetheart Joyce Slack on December 4, 1951 in the Saint George Utah Temple and is the father of a daughter Cynthia Joyce (Steve) Iverson, and four sons, Michael D (Jenneice) Beckstrand, James Earl (Tammy) Beckstrand, John Eric (Michelle) Beckstrand, and David Harold (Juliette) Beckstrand.

DeLyle was raised in Meadow Utah by his dad and loving step-mother, Dorothy Magny Beckstrand. He worked hard on the family farm and graduated from Millard High School. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nova Scotia, Canada.

DeLyle returned home from his successful mission and joined the United States Navy during the Korean War. He fought in the Battle of Inchon Harbor and was proud of the service he was able to provide in order to keep America free. Yeoman 3/C DeLyle Beckstrand was responsible for navigating Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel (LCVP)) during the war. It was shortly after he returned to Naval Base San Diego, California that he met his beautiful bride.

DeLyle recognized the importance of education and completed his Bachelors of Science Degree in Agronomy from Brigham Young University. He supported his family by working for the United States Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service, although his real passion was farming with his father. He and his wife served Church missions in Anchorage Alaska, Cove Fort Visitor’s Center in Utah, and Jacksonville Florida. He held many callings in the Church including bishop, high councilor, gospel doctrine teacher, and Scout Master where he made sure his own boys attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was the recipient of the prestigious Silver Beaver award. He volunteered as a member of the Millard County Jeep Posse and Meadow Fire Department for many years. He loved gardening and keeping his yard beautiful.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Joyce, son John Eric, great granddaughter Emerson Grace Beckstrand, brothers Orvil Lael Beckstrand and Ray L. Beckstrand.
