Spikes died at 10:30 a.m. October 10, 1973 in the West Texas Hospital in Lubbock following a brief illness. He had practiced medicine in Ralls since World War II.
A native of Ralls, he was a graduate of Lubbock High School, Texas Tech and Texas School of Medicine in Galveston. He specialized in lung diseases, practicing in San Angelo and Memphis, Tenn.
He was a veteran of World War II, a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Texas Medical Association.
Survivors include his wife, Lenora; his mother, Mrs. Nellie Witt Spikes of Ralls; a son Carey of Houston; a stepson, Sidney Tinnin, of Houston; a daughter, Mrs. Jack Campbell of Tyler; two sisters; Mrs. Wilda Laminack of Ralls and Mrs. Wilma Wheeler of Floydada, and five grandchildren.
