BROOKINGS – Sandra Torino, 63, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, in an airplane accident near Lead.
Sandra Vaughn was born July 26, 1935, at Spearfish, where she attended school. She attended Black Hills State College.
She married Peter Torino on Aug. 27, 1954, at Spearfish. They lived in Spearfish before moving to Sioux Falls, where they operated the municipal swimming pool and her husband taught at Washington High School. They moved to Brookings in 1963.
She taught school at Sinai and then taught English at Brookings High School for over 20 years.
She and her husband owned and operated the Exchange pawn shop in Brookings, along with their son, Steve.
Her husband also died in the same accident on July 26, 1998.
She is survived by two sons; Pete of Rapid City, and Steve of Brookings; two grandchildren; and a brother, Ed Vaughn of Racine, Wis.

Memorial services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Brookings. Another service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Lead, with inurnment in Holy Cross Cemetery.
