Olene was born April 24, 1911 near Hiner, Parker County, Texas to George Johnson Barnett and Myrtle McNutt Barnett. She had two older sisters, LaVerne and Dymple. She married John Rupe Saunders in Amarillo, Potter County, Texas on May 6, 1941. They had no children. Olene was a secretary for the Federal Aviation Administration. She was a volunteer for the Bluebirds of Methodist Hospital in San Antonio for many years, and served as president for two years. She is buried in San Jose Burial Park in San Antonio.
